15 Oct How To Begin Creating a Toxin-Free Home

I had a defining moment several weeks ago. After working a night shift, I was taking a nap and my husband was watching the kiddos. While cleaning the bathroom, he got a phone call and went to answer it. While he was on the phone, our sweet, sweet 5 yr old son decided to help him clean the bathroom. He took our (what I now know to be toxic) spray cleaner and covered every surface of the bathroom, including his eyes and face. Knowing he had done something he should not have done, he ran and hid. When I woke up, I found him with swollen eyes, still smelling of the cleaner. My heart broke. As I rinsed his eyes and talked to him, I decided that effective immediately, I was going to get rid of these toxic chemicals and was going to take my first steps to a toxin-free home.

Now, I’m a busy Mom. I can’t handle the thought of researching every item that came into my home! It’s way too overwhelming. However, I am also not going to trust the misleading green labeling in the stores. Nor was I going to believe that a product was free and clear, natural or otherwise unless I could learn about every ingredient in it. That’s a tall order, to be sure. My other alternative was to buy from a company that had already proven themselves to me. Young Living fit the bill. They were transparent, honest, and passionate about quality. Young Living was the best way for me to begin creating a toxin-free home.

The Thieves Essential Rewards Kit

My desire to begin creating a toxin-free home fit perfectly with my new-found obsession with essential oils. The same company that makes the essential oils, makes an all-purpose household cleaner! In fact, they sell an entire kit containing a variety of household products that can replace so many of the toxic ones we use everyday. Oh, yes. I bought the kit and it has completely changed our home!

The oil blend at the core of this kit is known as Thieves. It is created based on a historical account of a group of thieves who used a similar combination of aromatics to protect themselves as they robbed victims of the Black Plague.

Thieves Household Cleaner

From this foundational essential oil, Young Living has developed Thieves Household Cleaner. This plant-based cleaner cleans and protects at the same time! Once diluted, Thieves Household Cleaner will clean dishes, laundry, floors, counters, carpets, windows – you name it! It has literally replaced every single other cleaner in our home. Think of the storage space that has freed up!

Thieves Foaming Hand Soap

Another great alternative is the Thieves Foaming Hand Soap. This replaces the toxic commercial soaps we had in each bathroom, which included parabens, toxic fragrances, and sodium lauryl sulfate. Our new soap is luxurious and smells absolutely wonderful.  We love it!

Thieves Waterless Hand Purifier

Hand Sanitizers are the bane of my existence. I have always hated them and I hate them still. How have people somehow been duped into thinking that hand sanitizers can somehow replace a good hand-washing?! Even as a nurse, I was doing some continuing education and this very question came up: What is a better sanitizer? Hand washing with soap or an alcohol / triclosan combination? I chose hand washing and I got the answer wrong! The Thieves Waterless Hand Purifier is completely different from other sanitizers, and you will feel it the moment you put it on your hands. Not only do I know that it is free of toxic chemicals, but it is gentle and soothing on my hands!

Thieves Toothpaste and Mouthwash

I was excited to try the Thieves oral care line. There have been several reports recently about the toxic components of toothpaste. It seems crazy to me to have a component in toothpaste which requires a warning not to swallow. Our mouths are extremely vascular. Do you not think that poisonous component is not being absorbed into our blood streams?! I don’t care how much or how little of this toxic ingredient exists in my toothpaste, I don’t want it in my mouth or in the mouths of my children! This kit comes with a Thieves Aromabright toothpaste and a Thieves Mouthwash. They taste great and are refreshing and safe for us.

Thieves Spray

I now carry a bottle of this Thieves Spray in my purse at all times. It’s an awesome option to wipe off grocery carts, public bathrooms or even my work space at work.  The coolest thing about this cleaner – if my son ever decided to help me clean again, I would have no fear. In fact, my children are old enough now to help out with cleaning, and it’s a load off my mind to know that there is no danger in exposure.

Slowly but surely, we are working at creating a toxin-free home. This Thieves Kit was a fantastic way for me to get started. We will continue to make progress as we learn more each day. I know we have a ways to go, but I also know that our efforts will pay off in health and vitality. And can you really put a price on that?
