30 Jan How to Make an Inuit Girl Craft with Coffee Filters
We are currently reading the book Very Last First Time for our Five in a Row curriculum. The story is about an Inuit girl who faces an incredible challenge alone for the first time. The story takes place in Ungava Bay, Canada, so we have been learning about Northern Canada. Clark and Luci have been especially interested in the Inuit people and their culture. As we have learned about it, we found an Inuit girl craft with coffee filters that looked like it would be fun to make.
What You’ll Need
Clark noticed that in practically all of the pictures and videos that we have seen, the Inuit are wearing parkas to keep warm. So, naturally we had to have a great, big, warm parka on our Inuit girl. Using construction paper, a coffee filter and cotton balls, we glued together a couple of the most adorable little Inuit girls you have ever seen!
What to Do
I had both kids pick the color of their choice for the parka. Next I drew the shape of the parka onto the construction paper and had them cut it out. As they were doing that, I traced a circle on white construction paper around the base of the coffee filters for the girl’s head. Using the white circle, I also traced a black circle, which I cut in half for the girl’s hair. Next we cut out two mittens each. We then glue all of the pieces in place, finishing with cotton balls down the center and at the base of the parka, and at the base of the sleeves.
One of the really great things about Five in a Row is that it allows the younger siblings to join in and learn as much as they are able. Luci is always included in our Five in a Row time and she participates fully.
Our finished products are currently on display on Clark and Luci’s respective bedroom doors. Can you get any cuter than this?
