The half double crochet stitch is one of my favorite basic stitches. It has the simplicity of the single crochet stitch but works up quickly like the double crochet stitch. The final product sits perfectly between the stiffer single crochet stitch and the looser double crochet stitch. Crochet is such a wonderful handicraft. For me, it is something that settles my mind and brings me peace and enjoyment. ...

"I'm just not crafty." It's probably the most common concern that we hear from homeschool moms when discussing the subject of handicrafts. I get it! We are all gifted in different ways. Your gift might not be crafting or creativity. Mine isn't math. Growing up, I hated math. My entire left brain would go on lock-down at the very appearance of numbers. But unfortunately (or is it fortunately?), we don't get a pass on subjects that we are not gifted in. We don't get to skip over subjects that we find...

It's about time! Today we will be finishing our needle-felted fox that we have been working on in our last couple of posts. In the beginning of our initial needle felting series, we found that our projects worked up quite quickly. As the complexity increased, however, so did the time required. It's not a bad thing - we've enjoyed the process, and we've learned a lot along the way. While making our fox, we learned how to apply short and long fur, even a bushy tail. We got more practice making multi-colored ears and...

This is the second part of our needle-felted fox project. The first part of our sculpture was creating the armature. Although building an armature was a new experience for us, we found it important to remember that perfection is not the goal. That first layer of copper wire was soon going to be covered in undyed wool roving. So although this second part was a little time consuming, it was simple to complete. Just like the first layer, there is no need for perfection -that comes later! In this part we will simply be...

Today we are starting a new project in our handicraft series - a needle-felted fox! We have several reasons for choosing a fox. First of all, they're just so cute. They also provide the opportunity for us to try a slightly more complicated armature than our last project, the needle-felted sheep, and we're going to learn how to apply fur. We're going to break this project up into 3 videos. It's a little more in depth than our previous projects, and can certainly not be done in one sitting. I also find that when things are...

Today we are going to be completing our needle-felted sheep that we started in our last post. Having completed the armature, we are going to move on to the application of the wool, filling out the sheep's head and body. This handicraft continues to bring us joy, and I'm afraid it's going to be very hard to move on to our next handicraft, as we've enjoyed this one so much. With our enjoyment comes the desire to continue to learn and develop skill. And I hope you experience this desire as well. Handicrafts are not...
