Happy Handicrafts

One thing I was sure of when we started our Happy Handicrafts video series, was that I would be covering crochet and sharing what you need to know before getting started with crochet. Not only do I have almost 40 years of experience with crochet, but it's also a handicraft that I love. It has stood the test of time (clearly) and has been the source of much relaxation and joy throughout the years. I initially learned to crochet as a child, but it became a hobby that I kept revisiting as a young adult. At the time,...

This is it, Friend. This is our final project in our Needle Felting Series! Honestly, we’ve been doing this handicraft for 6 months, so I don’t know why I’m sad about moving on, but I am. This handicraft has been so enjoyable for both my daughter and myself. I would like to strongly encourage any homeschooling family – if you are looking for a handicraft to do with your children, DO THIS! As our final project, we chose to make a needle-felted fairy to accompany our whimsical toadstool scene. Creating a human figure brings together many, if not all, of the skills...

For our final needle felting project, we wanted to do a whimsical scene involving toadstools and a fairy. This seemed like the ultimate needle felting experience and a great way to end our series. We decided to divide the project into two posts and two videos simply because of the time it would take to do it all. So the first part is going to be a whimsical toadstool scene with needle felting and second is going to be our fairy. Online we had seen many of these examples of these delightful scenes, many with the scenes built...

We are coming close to the end of our needle-felting series, which makes me a little sad. It's time to move on to another handicraft, and the only way I'm ok with this, is by telling myself that we are not abandoning our needle-felting hobby - we're simply setting it aside for a bit. I know for sure that we will be revisiting this handicraft again, and when we do, we'll be sure to include it on our YouTube channel, Happy Handicrafts. But before we end, I really wanted to create a landscape scene. So I came...

"I'm just not crafty." It's probably the most common concern that we hear from homeschool moms when discussing the subject of handicrafts. I get it! We are all gifted in different ways. Your gift might not be crafting or creativity. Mine isn't math. Growing up, I hated math. My entire left brain would go on lock-down at the very appearance of numbers. But unfortunately (or is it fortunately?), we don't get a pass on subjects that we are not gifted in. We don't get to skip over subjects that we find...

It's about time! Today we will be finishing our needle-felted fox that we have been working on in our last couple of posts. In the beginning of our initial needle felting series, we found that our projects worked up quite quickly. As the complexity increased, however, so did the time required. It's not a bad thing - we've enjoyed the process, and we've learned a lot along the way. While making our fox, we learned how to apply short and long fur, even a bushy tail. We got more practice making multi-colored ears and...
