Our Best Life

Seriously.  For my family, this is what homeschooling is all about!  It’s about having the freedom to do what you want, when you want.  I love that we don’t have to worry about getting up at a certain time, or going to bed at a certain time.  I don’t have to arrange my day around when school starts and when it ends.  We don’t have to waste time in car pool lines, and we don’t have to spend our evenings working on homework. Time is valuable and I love that I get to maximize my time with my family. Today, for...

Have you ever done a gratitude challenge?  My friend, Doreen recently wrote a thought-provoking article on her blog, Nocturnal Nonsense (no longer published), called The Gratitude Challenge.  Now, I’m going to be honest – I’ve seen these types of challenges before and have never gotten involved because I really regarded them mostly as fluff.  I never really believed in success psychology, and a Gratitude Challenge reeked of that to me. A Negative Mind will Never Leave to a Positive Life Thank-goodness I’ve learned a few things in my lifetime.  One thing I learned is that one of the reasons that I “never really believed in success psychology” was...

The Perot Museum in downtown Dallas, Texas is a public natural history museum.  Since we knew we would be homeschooling this year, we got a yearly membership.  We had been to visit several times, but we are loving the freedom that a membership offers us.  This museum is really big, so there is no way to get in the entire experience in one visit – so a membership seemed a logical place to start! It’s a pretty fascinating museum for kids of all ages, starting even before you enter the doors!  On the walkway up to the entrance is an area...

Earlier this month, I attended Young Living’s International Grand Convention in Dallas.  Young Living is an essential oil company, so logically I expected to learn a lot about essential oils, maybe some information about the company and how to lead a successful team in Network Marketing.  I did not expect to be inspired and motivated to live a better life!  I did not expect to be driven to turn the spotlight inward, exposing some long-hidden truths. Superficially, I would claim my life is wonderful.  With a loving husband, happy children, a career and big dreams, I feel that I have achieved contentment and balance in my...

I recently returned from my company’s yearly convention.  I had an absolutely awesome time, met wonderful people, learned enough to make my head burst and was so fortunate to experience the gathering of thousands of people who live in positivity and care for others.  It was absolutely inspiring.  My biggest take-away from this convention, however, went far deeper than the great, yet largely superficial feelings. As I lay in bed one night, thinking about the words that I’d heard that day at the convention, I came to the shocking and humbling realization that I was living in fear. The idea of living in fear...

As homeschoolers, we have the unique opportunity to teach our children exactly what they need to be taught.  We are able to incorporate many subjects into their education that may have been abandoned or never addressed by the public school system.  I absolutely love that my children can experience the richness of the creative arts, music, cooking, the exploration of nature, physical education, even cursive writing while at the same time not missing out on any of the essentials! What I consider to be one of the essentials, has never been addressed in school.  To my knowledge, public schools have never taught...
