Celebrating the Loss of the First Tooth

Celebrating the Loss of the First Tooth

Clark lost his first tooth!  It was surprisingly uneventful, without days or even weeks of telltale wiggling, in fact without any drama whatsoever.  He just surprised me one morning as I came home from work, holding a little baby tooth.  He was excited and so was I, except for that tiny little voice in the back of my head that whispered like it always does, “Look at young handsome little boy!  He’s growing up so fast!”

The crafty side of my brain immediately goes to Pinterest and all of the cute, fun ideas for celebrating the loss of the first tooth, and ways to make this experience memorable for him – little letters, little tooth envelopes and pillows, notes to the tooth fairy, congratulation certificates, lots of sparkles and glitter etc.  What should I do?

I talked to Clark and Luci about the Tooth Fairy.  Luci was instantly mad that her teeth weren’t falling out and Clark excitedly wrote her a letter, inviting her to “stay for a whole week.”  As I tucked him into bed, we giggled together about how exciting this all was, then I headed downstairs to my office to catch up on some work.

A short time later, I hear the pitter-patter of little feet and Clark appears, SOBBING.  Not just crying – SOBBING!  As I cuddle him and cover him in kisses, he tells me that he has decided he does not want the Tooth Fairy to take his tooth!  Poor little guy – he wasn’t ready to let go. I promised to email the Tooth Fairy immediately and tucked him back in bed.

So instead of the usual trade, the Tooth Fairy dropped off a little box to hold that little tooth!  Here’s how I made it:

Is this cute or what?!  It took a few minutes, but Clark loved it so much, it was worth it.  Now I have to go make another one for Luci, who, of course, will not be left out!  She wants to use it as a “fairy bed.”
