How to Create a Paper Sloyd Bank

We have come to the last model of the third year in the book, Paper Sloyd for Primary Grades and this one was a doozy! This project was the 18th model of the third year, and it was definitively one of the more difficult models that we have done. In fact, I would recommend breaking the project up into a couple of sessions for the younger years. It is created in three separate parts, which are then assembled at the end. The project involves a lot of very precise measuring and cutting, amounting to a fair amount of time.

But don’t let me discourage you – the result is a very useful and fascinating little insight into life in the early 1900s. People didn’t have the option, at the time, of walking into a large store and purchasing a “piggy bank” in any shape and size. And in a perhaps self-defeating design, our current “piggy banks” also have access to remove our saved money any time we like. This paper sloyd bank is sealed up tight, saving your money until you decide it is time to access it,

Happy Handicrafts Video: How to Create a Paper Sloyd Bank

It would fun to put some creative embellishments on our paper sloyd bank – maybe a barred door and windows? How will you decorate your bank?

I love that our new little bank is permanently sealed until it is filled and until we choose to open it. The final decision is going to have to be made with conviction because it will be final. In order to get your money out, you will need to destroy all of your hard work!

Thank-you so much for following along with our paper sloyd journey! Can you believe we have reached the end of the third year? There are still some supplementary models that we will also make. Be sure to follow along with us at Happy Handicrafts and / or subscribe to our newsletter so that you won’t miss any of our upcoming videos.
