09 Apr How to Create a Paper Sloyd Letter Box
Today’s project is a paper sloyd letter box. This is the 13th supplementary model from the book Paper Sloyd for Primary Grades by Ednah Anne Rich. It is another project that I had to research. We don’t tend to have letter boxes these days, but apparently they were a thing, back in 1905 when this book was published. This may be because, sadly, letters are almost obsolete nowadays. In the early 1900s, they were a valuable form of communication, and were therefore kept in beautiful boxes. Letter boxes were made from all sorts of sources, including metal, wood, and paper.
Ours, of course, is paper, and it provides quite a cute little display.

- An Exacto knife

Happy Handicrafts Video: How to Create a Paper Sloyd Letter Box
What a beautiful little paper sloyd letter box! The entire way through this project, we were a little skeptical as to how it would come together – I hope we did it correctly! We had it in many positions, trying to determine which was the right way, including completely upside down, looking like a bee hive.
The project, honestly, made me feel a little nostalgic. I’m old enough that I can remember having pen pals, and receiving letters from friends and family throughout my childhood and teen age years. Even when my husband and I began dating, we exchanged letters, which to this day, I treasure.
Clearly, even Grandma Parsnip appreciates a letter!
