25 May How to Create a Paper Sloyd Match Holder
Anyone need a paper sloyd match holder? We didn’t know we needed one until we made Project number 16 from the third year from the book Paper Sloyd for Primary Grades and saw how cute it was! This model introduced a new technique to us. It was a little meticulous in the measuring and cutting, but the instructions were not difficult to understand. In fact, this project is one in which you will see all of the skills that you have been working on throughout your paper sloyd education come together.
Materials Needed
- The book, Paper Sloyd for Primary Grades by Ednah Anne Rich
- A cutting mat
- An Exacto knife
- A compass
- A pencil
- A ruler
- Glue
- Quality paper (the book recommends Bristol Board). We used a piece of scrapbook paper, and some scrap Bristol Board. This project is a great opportunity to use scrap papers that we have created in previous lessons.

This model required some paper sloyd skills in order to turn out well. I was happy and proud of my daughter as she made this piece with ease. In fact, she really surprised and delighted me, by going ahead in the book and completing a similar model with a lid on it. She gave it to me for Mother’s Day with a sweet gift inside.

It was almost one year ago that I decided to start this whole paper sloyd focus. It was something that we were hesitant about starting in our homeschool, and instead of leaning on the fence, we plunged right in after some research, which I posted about at What is Sloyd? And Why is it a Valuable Tool in Home Education? Taking a deep dive into the theory behind sloyd was the impetus I need to get moving and we have not looked back! If you haven’t started sloyd in your homeschool, let this be your sign. Read about it, and then come craft with us! You won’t regret a moment of it!
