16 Jan How to Create a Paper Sloyd Picture Frame
Have you been following along with us on our paper sloyd adventure? What began as overwhelming and intimidating has become something that we really enjoy. We’ve learned new skills and habits, and we’ve made many interesting objects. I think my favorite part is that I have found my children remaking the models on their own time, for their own purposes – and they were made with precision and accuracy, the result being something useful and beautiful. It truly made me proud! Today we will be making another paper sloyd picture frame.
This will be our second paper sloyd picture frame. We created one several months ago, while working on First Year models. This paper sloyd picture frame is a little more advanced, requiring a little more skill, and honestly, it’s a lovely piece to hang on the wall.
Materials Needed:
- The book, Paper Sloyd for Primary Grades by Ednah Anne Rich
- A cutting mat
- An Exacto knife
- A pencil
- A hole punch
- Scissors (optional)
- A ruler
- Glue
- Ribbon (about 8 inches)
- A 2″ x 2″ picture that you would like to frame
- Good quality paper such as card stock (at least 5″ x 10″, we are using a 12″ x 12″ scrapbook paper)
Happy Handicrafts Video: How to Create a Paper Sloyd Picture Frame
I hope you are enjoying this series. Our purpose in creating it is to be of service to Homeschool Moms, who are overwhelmed with the thought of doing sloyd with their children, but know that it is an important part of a Charlotte Mason education. Maybe you’re not “crafty,” or maybe this is the subject that always gets pushed to the back burner when things get busy. It’s ok! Now all you have to do, is set your student up with the materials and we will take it from there!
Each video is presented by my children and myself. We walk you through each model, in a step-by-step way. This gives the student the written instructions, as well as audio and visual.
The results are some pretty cute little paper sloyd picture frames, that your student will enjoy displaying on their wall.
Bright patterns and ribbons make the display even more pleasant and enjoyable. Try a few different ones as you practice your skills!
