How to Crochet the CUTEST Baby Chick in an Eggshell

I’m not sure that there is anything cuter on earth than a baby chick. So that’s what we’re going to make today. We promised an amigurumi pattern and this is it – the CUTEST baby chick in an eggshell. The pattern includes instructions for a baby chick, about 4″ in height, as well as the top and bottom of an eggshell, which the baby chick will fit in to. It’s a sweet little toy and would make the perfect addition to an Easter basket!

As with each of our patterns, we will walk you through each step of the process in our video below.

We start with the baby chick, going from the bottom to the top. If you’ve been following us in our crochet series on Happy Handicrafts, you may have made the crocheted hat without a pattern. Learning the sequence to making the hat will prepare you for this pattern. The process is almost exactly the same for making the baby chick, along with the top and bottom of the eggshell. In fact, this is why I wanted you to make the hat without a pattern with me. You will begin to realize that once you know how to make a shape, a whole world opens up to you. Now you can make hats, anything oval, and anything circular – all without a pattern!

The top and bottom of the eggshell are almost exactly the same. The top is simply one row less than the bottom, so I didn’t find it necessary to include it in the video – I’m pretty sure you can figure that part out.

You can tell when I really love a pattern because I can’t stop at one. In this case, I continued on making baby chicks in different pastel colors for friends with young children. Since they work up so quickly, you can several in an evening.
