29 Mar How to do an Increase in Crochet
As I was working on our baby chick in an eggshell project the other day, I realized that I had never shared a video on how to do an increase in crochet. I’ve explained and quickly demonstrated it during other videos, but this little nugget deserved its’ own video. It’s a stitch that you will use over and over and over again. Anytime you’re wanting to go from smaller to larger, you’ll be using this stitch.
I’ve used an increase in crochet, for example, when making our hat without a pattern, when making our baby chick in an eggshell, and when making our spring coaster set. It’s an essential stitch to know in crochet, and has some surprising effects, as you’ll see in our video below.

Happy Handicrafts Video: Step-by-Step BEGINNER’S GUIDE to doing a Crochet Increase
We start our video off learning how to do an increase in crochet with a single crochet stitch. This is very simple and gives a good baseline to how all of the other stitches can be increased. Next, we show how to do the same with a double crochet stitch and how, if done for a couple of rows, you can get a very interesting result.
