How to Do the Double Crochet Stitch

The second most common stitch in crochet is the double crochet stitch. It comes second to the single crochet stitch, which learned about in our last post / video. This stitch results in a less rigid or shaped project, so it is wonderful for such things as a baby blanket or quilt. The larger gaps between the stitches make it into a softer, more flowy final result, depending on which yarn you may use. Because of these larger gaps, however, it crochets up very quickly, which can be very exciting and rewarding.

Just like with the single crochet stitch, it is so important to practice, practice, practice! The overall quality and value of your final result will depend on how you have perfected the stitch that you are using. I know it’s not the fun part of crocheting. Nobody like practicing. But remember the final result – maybe it’s a gift that you are giving a family with a new baby, or a soft plush toy that you are surprising a niece or nephew with. You want it to look perfect! So put in the practice!
