12 Oct How to Make a Needle-Felted Fairy
This is it, Friend. This is our final project in our Needle Felting Series! Honestly, we’ve been doing this handicraft for 6 months, so I don’t know why I’m sad about moving on, but I am. This handicraft has been so enjoyable for both my daughter and myself. I would like to strongly encourage any homeschooling family – if you are looking for a handicraft to do with your children, DO THIS!
As our final project, we chose to make a needle-felted fairy to accompany our whimsical toadstool scene. Creating a human figure brings together many, if not all, of the skills we have learned over the past few months. I am quite convinced that if you can get through this project, you will be well-prepared to do any needle-felting project.

Happy Handicrafts Video: How to Make a Needle-Felting Fairy
Our needle-felted fairy was definitively one of our more involved needle felting projects. If you are a fairly new crafter and aren’t feeling confident, I would suggest that you start at the beginning of our needle felting series. However, the really cool thing about needle felting is that you don’t necessarily have to start at the very beginning. Yes, in our needle felting series we slowly progress, learning new skills as we go, but if you are an experienced crafter and have the confidence to jump in – do it! Remember my very first needle felting project? I’d watched my daughter do plenty of needle felting projects, and I was convinced I could do it too. It’s not a complicated handicraft! Just watch the video and craft along with us.
We did a lot of blending of colors with this project and I love the results. The blend of greens and purples and pinks gives the dress a fairy feel, while adding depth and contrast.
Because this fairy is so little, we decided against adding a face. Or truth be told, we tried and it was hideous. Small details, such as eyes, a nose and mouth, are quite challenging to add. Unless they are PERFECT, they do not add to the final piece. It’s going to take us a lot more practice before we tackle tiny faces.
Remember when needle felting, that your fairy is a representation of your creativity. Choosing your colors and how you implement alterations is what makes your fairy special and unique. Try a different skin color, hair color, or dress color. Change the size or shape of the wings. Change the length of the dress. There are so many ways to make this fairy your own creation!
The important thing is that you are having fun, while creating. This handicraft can be therapeutic and so relaxing to do!
While this needle felted fairy may be our final official project in our needle felting series, it is not going to be the last you see of needle felting! Although it’s the end of our series on our YouTube channel, Happy Handicrafts, I promise you that we’ll be back with occasional additional projects. We’ll see you there!
