How to Make a Needle-Felted Fox (Part 1 of 3)

Today we are starting a new project in our handicraft series – a needle-felted fox! We have several reasons for choosing a fox. First of all, they’re just so cute. They also provide the opportunity for us to try a slightly more complicated armature than our last project, the needle-felted sheep, and we’re going to learn how to apply fur.

We’re going to break this project up into 3 videos. It’s a little more in depth than our previous projects, and can certainly not be done in one sitting. I also find that when things are broken down into bite-sized pieces, they are much easier to digest.

Materials Needed

The materials needed for this first part of our project are minimal, and if you’ve been following along with us in this series, you will already have everything you need.

This armature was definitively more difficult than what we had dealt with before. Bringing all of the pieces together and ensuring that the legs were of equal size to support and balance our fox was a bit of a challenge. What we learned from this, was perfection is not necessary (as you can see below). We are going to hide all of the armature beneath a covering of wool (part 2). It will never be seen again. Your main goal at this stage is to ensure that your armature has legs of equal length. This will make sure that your needle=felted fox with have stability when standing.

You can choose which series you would like to work on and go from there. Remember, we are here to help, so if you have any questions, leave them in the comments below and we’ll get back to you.
