20 Aug How to Make a Needle-Felted Fox (Part 3 of 3)
It’s about time! Today we will be finishing our needle-felted fox that we have been working on in our last couple of posts. In the beginning of our initial needle felting series, we found that our projects worked up quite quickly. As the complexity increased, however, so did the time required. It’s not a bad thing – we’ve enjoyed the process, and we’ve learned a lot along the way.
While making our fox, we learned how to apply short and long fur, even a bushy tail. We got more practice making multi-colored ears and worked through several options for eyes. We struggled with shaping the head and face, and learned that through all of our challenges, needle felting only get more interesting, and more appealing. Have you tried it yet?

Happy Handicrafts Video: How to Make a Needle-Felted Fox (Part 3 of 3)
This needle-felted fox has been our most rewarding project in our needle felting series. We encountered many challenges, in which we were often tempted to give up. Trying to perfect the eyes was one of our biggest challenges, as you can clearly see below. First we tried sewing on beads, as you’ll see in the video. That didn’t look how we wanted it to, so we tried simply needle-felting the eye. This left our poor fox looking cross-eyed and very confused. Thankfully, we did not stop until we found a satisfactory solution.
These pictures made me laugh out loud. After much experimentation, we decided on glass eyes. We needle felted some black eye sockets and found some yellow eye which just need to be pressed into the wool. SO MUCH BETTER!
Here’s a look at the front and back of our fox. Yes -there are definitively many more areas for improvement, but for right now, we’re going to sit back and enjoy the work we’ve done. It feels good to see how far we’ve come from our first needle felting project.
We are far too quickly approaching the end of our needle felting series, and I’m already feeling a little sad and nostalgic about it. However, we have accomplished our ultimate goal, which was to gain enough skill in this handicraft that we can continue on, creating beautiful things on our own. I genuinely hope that through this series, you have found enthusiasm and joy in the creative process as well!
