14 Mar How to Make a St. Patrick’s Day Rainbow Watercolor Paint Card
Clark and Luci have been loving watercolor paints recently, and I’ve been learning to make cards on my new Cricut Explore Air 2 that I got for Christmas. Today, we decided to combine our two current obsessions to show you how to make a St. Patrick’s Day rainbow watercolor paint card for Clark and Luci’s grandparents. We will be spending St. Patrick’s Day with them, and what better way to them how excited we are to see them, than with a card for the occasion!
Here are the supplies you will need:
- Heavy Watercolor Paper
- Watercolor Paints
- Paintbrush
- Brown and Black Construction Paper
- Glue
- Gold Paint
- Black Sharpie
- Cricut Explore Air 2 (Optional)
Start by folding your watercolor paper in half, to create the shape of the card. On the front, we are going to paint a rainbow.
I’m no watercolor artist, but I was really excited to learn a little tip recently that has helped me in creating this card! We wanted to paint a rainbow, but in the past the colors have all crossed into each other causing a big ol’ mess. To avoid this, while still blending colors nicely, simply paint in the colors, leaving a small space between them. Once you’ve painted all of the colors, use a clean, wet brush to paint in between the colors, blending the colors on either side. You’ll end up with a beautifully blended rainbow of colors without any of the unwanted streaks or leaks.
Let the card dry thoroughly. It will take a few hours. While it’s drying, you can paint your gold pieces. If you’re not feeling very crafty, you could always buy the chocolate gold coins. We simply cut out circles of brown construction paper, then we painted them with gold paint, and gave them time to dry.

You can DOWNLOAD the pot of gold shape HERE, then cut it out. Once I had cut it out, I cut a slit in it near the top to slip some of the coins into. Then we glued on the remainder of the coins. You can do as many as you like! How big do you want your Pot of Gold to be?
To finish the card we are going to apply the wording. Of course you can write what you like, but we chose “We’re so LUCKY” to put on the front, followed by “to have Grandparents like YOU!” on the inside. Click HERE to download the file “We’re so LUCKY.” It’s a little too intricate to cut out with scissors, so if you do not have a Cricut or other cutting machine, I’d opt to just write on the card.
