18 Jun How to Make Adorable Needle-Felted Chicks
After making our needle-felted Mother Hen last week, we knew we had to make her some baby chicks. These needle-felted chicks are so fun to make, and they felt up pretty quickly because of their size. We chose to make them quite small, but you can make them any size you like! Just remember, the bigger they are, the longer they are going to take to make.
Materials Needed
If you are following along with us in our needle felting series, there’s no need to buy any new materials for this project. We will be using the same materials as we did for the Mother Hen, minus the red wool. If you are just beginning with us, the following materials are what we will be using.
- A ball of undyed or white wool roving
- A small amount of wool roving in the following colors: red, orange, black, light pink (optional)
- A needle-felting kit
- A needle-felting mat
Happy Handicrafts Video: How to Make ADORABLE Needle-Felted Chicks
As we showed in the video, we used the undyed wool roving as a base for our chicks. We thought it would be cheaper than buying more dyed wool. So we first rolled up a small amount of the undyed wool and needle felted it into the shape of a tiny egg.
Then we covered the tiny egg in yellow wool and felted it in. This seemed to work really well for us, and I think we will continue to use this technique (using the undyed wool as a base and covering the base with colored wool roving) as we go forward.
Then, piece by tiny piece, we added the wings, beak, and eyes. Optionally, we added rosy cheeks, which I think adds to the cuteness.
We couldn’t stop at one chick, so we made three! After all, good things come in threes, and our Mother Hen deserves them!
