As I wind down our crochet handicraft series, I was trying to think of a worth-while project to make that would incorporate several different stitches, while still being fairly quick and easy to make. It didn’t take long. I immediately thought of these crocheted baby shoes. They are my go-to for shower gifts. Not only are they a great gift, but they can also serve as a gift embellishment, taking the place of a bow. They are quick to make, consisting of only seven rows. And they are quite simple, using stitches that we have already taught in our crochet series.

I love making these adorable little shoes! Because they’re so tiny, you can make several different sets in an evening. As you can see, measured below, the length of a slipper is about 3.5″-4″, which is the typical size of a 0-3 month old baby’s foot. This depends on your gauge, the size of the yarn, and the crochet hook chosen. In general, however, in cases such as this, I don’t get too excited about size. Babies vary so dramatically in size, and either way, if the shoe is too big, the baby will eventually grow into it.

I’ve made these sweet booties in multiple different colors, adding different embellishments to each. Sometimes the embellishment is a delicate satin ribbon rose, sometimes a flashy rhinestone, or sometimes a decorative button or bow. The truth is, even if they are not embellished, they would make adorable accessories to any baby girl’s outfit!

I know I say this for every handicraft, but I’m not going to be able to permanently stop creating for our crochet series. And just for the record – I don’t think you’re ever supposed to stop! We learn handicrafts so that they can bring us joy throughout our lives!

I have a couple more crochet projects scheduled and then we will move on to something very different. So don’t go away! We’ve got lots of exciting things planned at Happy Handicrafts!
