11 Jun How to Make the Cutest Needle-Felted Mother Hen

I’ve been a crafter my whole life. Yet somehow, I had never even heard of needle felting. This blows my mind! How did I miss this amazing hobby? The more my children and I get into it, the more I am surprised by the things we can make. It’s really a beautiful craft, and I hope that you’re able to follow along with us in creating these delightful projects. Today we are going to be making the cutest needle-felted Mother Hen. This is going to be a 2 part series, because a Mother Hen needs to have some little baby chicks. So, while this project will feature the needle-felted Mother Hen, the next project will be how to make her baby chicks.

Materials Needed

If you’ve been following along with us for our Needle-Felting Series, you will probably already have everything you need to make our needle-felting Mother Hen and her baby chicks. If not, you can pick what you need from the selections below.

• A ball of undyed or white wool roving
• A small amount of wool roving in the following colors: red, orange, black, light pink (optional)
• A needle-felting kit
• A needle-felting mat

Although we could possibly walk you through every step of this project here on our blog, we find that with handicrafts, it’s much easier to watch it being done.

We create our videos so that they can be followed by even our youngest crafters. Each series starts very simply and progress in difficulty, so that every age and ability finds it useful.

Our needle-felting project just get more enjoyable as we go! I also find them so relaxing and satisfying.

Needle-felting is not something that we are an expert in – YET! We’re just beginners, and our end results show it. But I hope that this fact makes us more accessible to everyone. We all have to begin somewhere, and we’d love if you start along with us!

One thing I learned this week is that needle felting is not a craft that comes together quickly. It’s slow going. Many times, I worried that I wasn’t doing it correctly, strong enough or deep enough. But was I wasn’t doing was LONG enough. So don’t get discouraged or impatient. Take your time, enjoy the process, and give it time to come together. It’s absolutely worth it!
