05 Feb How to Make Valentine’s Day Pompom Hearts
When I was growing up, I remember Valentine’s Day always being a big celebration in school. Every kid would bring in a box and put it on their desk, ready for all of the cards they would receive. When the teacher gave the cue, the students would go from table to table distributing their cards. Then we would share heart-shaped cookies and red and pink colored cupcakes. This break from the usual was always so exciting for everyone, but for me – big downer – it was awful. My parents were too poor to afford to buy cards for us to pass around, so I would sit there awkwardly with nothing to give.
What I learned from this experience was that homemade gifts have a huge value. To this day, I prefer something that I know took time and thought to create. Even if it’s just a short note. When my kids when to Mother’s Day out, or a homeschool co-op, we made something homemade for the kids. And that’s what we’re going to do today. Even if you’ve bought something for a friend or loved one, you can still show that you put thought and effort into it when you incorporate our Valentine’s Day pompom hearts.

These are super simple to make, and they are easy for all ages and abilities.
Materials Needed:
- Medium weight yarn in any color you like (we chose the typical Valentine’s Day colors of red, pink, and white)
- A fork
- Scissors
- A hot glue gun with glue sticks
Happy Handicrafts Video: So CUTE & EASY Valentine’s Day Pompom Heart Craft
Making pompom hearts with a fork serves a couple of purposes. First it keeps the pompoms uniform in size and shape. Secondly it also guides the creator to tying the pompom in the middle, which can occasionally be an issue. It takes away the potential for confusion or error, making this craft ideal for both the young and the old.

The red, pink, and white pompom hearts are really cute, but we decided to ramp up the visual impact by making dual-colored hearts. This very simple alteration in the process is described in the video.

We used our pompom hearts to accessorize our Valentine’s Day gifts. They show that you put thought and effort into your gift, and I think that’s more important than the girt itself! How are you going to use yours?
Happy Valentine’s Day! I hope it is filled with love, laughter, and affection.
