20 Dec How to Paint a Simple Watercolor Christmas Wreath with Brushwork
There is something especially meaningful and rewarding about watching simple practice turn into something beautiful. If you’ve been following along with us in our Brushwork handicraft series, practicing the same strokes over and over, again and again, you may have at some point wondered if it’s really doing anything. This simple watercolor Christmas wreath project is here to remind you that it is.
Today, we are bringing together our lessons and skills developed in the last few months, to show how a few, carefully practiced skills can be surprisingly stunning.
A Simple Christmas Wreath Project
This simple watercolor Christmas wreath is created using basic brush strokes layered gently into a circular shape. There’s no drawing required and no pressure to make it perfect.

A Beautiful Fit for Homeschool Art
If you homeschool, and have been working through our Brushwork series with us, this project will fit seamlessly into your rhythm:
- 🎨 Art credit without stress
- 🎄 Seasonal and meaningful
- 🖌️ Skill-based, not outcome-based
- 💛 Encouraging rather than overwhelming
Younger students can focus on color and movement, while older students can observe layering, composition, and brush control.
It’s also a wonderful reminder that art education doesn’t have to be complicated to be valuable.

Happy Handicrafts Video: Your Brushwork Practice Finally Pays Off This Season
You can make this watercolor Christmas wreath as a Christmas card, as a gift, or as a piece of home decor, like I did. It can fit in any style of design.

Remember, that your wreath doesn’t have to look like mine to be successful! If you’ve been practicing along with us, you’re going to find this project incredibly easy!
