Play Passports for Learning Geography (FREE Printable!)

We’ve been reading the book, How to Bake an Apple Pie and See the World as part of our Five in a Row homeschooling curriculum. In the book, a young girl decides to bake an apple pie but finds that the market is closed. So she travels the world, collecting all of the necessary ingredients for her apple pie.

When we first read this book, the 6 different countries that the girl traveled to quickly became a little overwhelming for Clark and Luci. Since my children are very hands-on learners, I decided to make our geography into a hands-on adventure.

I created a couple of play passports, including an official-looking play cover (the download is a tiny bit different because I brilliantly erased the first one!), an ID page with identifying information to be written, a spot to affix a photo and several empty pages for passport stamps. Fill in the form below to get on our VIP list and get the FREE download.

I cut out the pages for the kids – one cover page and ID page for each of them, then several pages. If you fold them all in half, they will fit perfectly together.  Staple or tie them together along the fold and you have a great-looking play passport! The kids loved this!

I had them print out their identifying information – I deliberately put some lines in there that I knew would be learning opportunities. Once we filled out the information, we glued on our pictures.

To find our play passport stamps, I used Google Images. For example, if we were going to learn about Italy, I would Google “Italy passport stamp,” click on the image search option and find one I liked. I printed out several for the kids to cut out. If this is too much, you can always buy them on Amazon using my affiliate link.

As we “traveled” from place to place, Clark and Luci would glue the corresponding stamp onto their play passports. I had made the Play Passport specifically for this book study, but it went over so well, I think I will keep it around and continue to use it when studying geography!

Here are just a few of the places we “visited” during our book study. This is a fun way to help children see clear distinctions between the countries you are studying.
