26 Apr Simple and Healthy Jam That Even Your Kids Can Make
I’ve been trying to be a little more conscious of what I am feeding my children. We’re far from perfect, but each year, when I look back, I can see that all of our small, baby steps add up to really big changes that can only be of benefit to our family. One of these little steps that I’ve been working on is decreasing, if not eliminating processed sugar. So, imagine how excited I got when I found this simple and healthy jam that even your kids can make! It’s just three healthy ingredients, and Clark and Luci LOVE it.
Clark and Luci did every bit of this recipe, from removing the strawberry stems, cutting them up, adding the ingredients and stirring the pot. They were quite proud of their accomplishment and were very eager to try it out. I was a little worried that the jam may go to waste because it did not contain preservatives, but the children were so eager to eat the product of their labor that it was easily gone in a week.
Strawberry Chia Seed Jam
- 1 lb Fresh Strawberries (can use any type of berries)
- 2 tbsp Honey
- 3 tbsp Chia Seeds
- Remove the stems and cut the strawberries into slices. Place into a small saucepan.
- Add honey to the strawberries. Cook over low-medium heat, stirring occasionally until it comes to a boil. As the mixture heats up, the berries will begin to break down. If you like a smoother jam, you can mash the berries with a fork or dough blender to create the consistency you prefer.
- Add the chia seeds to the mixture and mix in thoroughly. Continue to stir over low-medium heat for about 15 minutes.
- Remove from heat. Pour into a mason jar and allow to cool. Store in refrigerator for up to a week.
Enjoy this simple and healthy jam that even your kids can make! And get some more strawberries, because they’re going to want more!
