Simple Christmas Crafts with Popsicle Sticks

Simple Christmas Crafts with Popsicle Sticks

I love the Christmas holidays!  We tend to drop back to just the basics in our homeschool.  This gives us all a much-needed break and it allows us time for the many activities that come along with the holidays. In our home, we love anything that is creative, so I’ve started leaving out crafting supplies for Clark and Luci.  I’d love if you visit my guest blog today over at My Joy-Filled Life, where I talk in a little more detail about simple Christmas crafts with Popsicle sticks.

It never ends with just one craft, though.  Clark and Luci will work on their crafts for days on end, refining them, adding to them, and coming up with more ideas.  I love to witness the creativity in these kids and see the results.

Every kid loves a nativity scene.  As a child, I remember playing with our nativity set for hours, acting out the Christmas story.  Clark and Luci do the same thing with our peg doll nativity set, which I made last year.  This time, we went a little simpler and made a nativity scene with Popsicle sticks and paper.

I’ve made this really easy for you non-crafty Moms.  I have a free download of the nativity image that we used.  There are two sizes for you to choose from. Once is just the right size to cut out and fit into the popsicle stick frame.  Keep a little half-inch edge when cutting it out because you’ll need to put your glue there. Fill out the form below to become a part of our VIP list and get an immediate download of the nativity scene.

The process is simple.  Just glue four Popsicle sticks together in a square.  Add the roof.  I let this dry overnight.  It can use a little stability when the kids get playing with it.  While it’s drying, paint or color your nativity scene.  Once that is done, I applied Mod Podge over the sky portion and sprinkled silver glitter over it.  It sticks to it well.  Next we traced a star with one of our mini cookie cutters onto yellow construction paper and cut it out.  Now everything just needs to dry for several hours or until the Mod Podge becomes clear.  We finished our project by gluing the nativity scene to the back of the square.  Now just tie a ribbon to the top and it’s ready for the tree!

Our last little simple Christmas craft with Popsicle sticks is Baby Jesus in the manger.

For this super simple craft, have the kids glue a couple of Popsicle sticks into the shape of an X.  We then cut a v-shape out of brown construction paper and glued it into the upper part of the X.  Cut out a circle for Baby Jesus’s head, draw on a sweet little face, and glue the head onto the brown V.  Finally we glued on dried moss to make it appear that the manger was lined with it.
