This was our first experience with a “Homeschool Day” field trip to the Fort Worth Zoo, and I just have to say WOW!  Homeschoolers show up!  I have been to the Fort Worth Zoo several times, but I have never seen it so incredibly busy!  Way to go, Homeschoolers! The timing couldn’t have been more perfect because next week is Luci’s birthday and she has been asking to go to the zoo for her birthday.  So, when I saw the Fort Worth Zoo was having a Homeschool Day with a nice little discount, we decided to go this week!  Neither Clark...

Today we went on a field trip to the Frontiers of Flight Museum in Dallas. It was such a great day! A little confession:  I think I might enjoy our field trips more than Clark and Luci do! The Glorious Flight Study We’ve been studying the award winning children’s story, The Glorious Flight as part of our Five in a Row curriculum.  The Glorious Flight tells the story of Louis Blériot’s efforts in the early 1900s to build a flying machine.  Clark, especially, has taken a real interest in airplanes, so we went to the library and got every book we could about...

We’ve been reading the book The Glorious Flight as part of our Five in a Row curriculum.  This is an awesome curriculum based on classic children’s literature in which you read one book for 5 days in a row.  Each day, you focus on a different subject from the book. The Glorious Flight is the story of the Frenchman, Louis Blériot, who worked for many years to build an airplane.  After many efforts and many failures, he was finally able to fly across the English Channel, winning a contest in the process. I had chosen this book specifically because for weeks Clark had been asking...

Actually, we are not going back to school – we homeschool, but handwashing is just as important in the home as in school.  In fact, if it is not taught and enforced at home, you can be quite sure that it won’t be happening while at school. This is our Yearly Refresher Course About a year ago, I had done this exercise with Clark and Luci (read the the blog post here) to teach them how to beat the bugs with proper handwashing.  They had both really enjoyed it at the time and they still vividly remembered it. I hadn’t planned on doing...

Seriously.  For my family, this is what homeschooling is all about!  It’s about having the freedom to do what you want, when you want.  I love that we don’t have to worry about getting up at a certain time, or going to bed at a certain time.  I don’t have to arrange my day around when school starts and when it ends.  We don’t have to waste time in car pool lines, and we don’t have to spend our evenings working on homework. Time is valuable and I love that I get to maximize my time with my family. Today, for...
