When it comes to opinions about homeschooling, I think I've probably come a long way in a short time.  Less than one year ago, I was just like the majority of tax-paying parents. My (small-minded) thought was that homeschoolers were either crazy, "crunchy" hippies, and or religious fanatics. Luci has been waiting with great excitement to start back to her little Mother’s Day Out program this year.  She is going to be going two days a week.  For the first time, Clark will be staying home, homeschooling, and Luci will be going to school. I think it was a little surprising to her that Clark was not accompanying her this year, but she put on her game face. Some Five in a Row books are a big hit with my children, and some are not. As much as I wanted it to be loved, I realized right away that Storm in the Night, that it was not going to be a hit.  There was very little action. My children described it as "a lot of boring talking."  Clark and Luci are, however, definitively interested in thunderstorms and weather, so we didn't want to miss the subject matter. My biggest challenge and focus right now as a homeschooling Mom is instilling in my children a love of reading.  I know that a love of reading is the basis of all lifelong, independent learning, but how is this accomplished?  How do I, as a parent, develop this essential trait in my children?
