Five in a Row: Night of the Moonjellies, Part 3

Five in a Row: Night of the Moonjellies, Part 3

Clark and Luci both went to Mother’s Day Out today.  That gives me a few hours to catch up on sleep, clean and get organized. I had promised them some Goldfish crackers as an after-school snack, but I was actually planning on getting some Five in a Row math done at the same time!  Today we did our activities first and read our book, Night of the Moonjellies last.

First, Clark and Luci had some leftover candies that they had to feed to their little puppy and bunny.

Math

Luci’s first math activity was to sort out the correct number of goldfish into each of the fish tanks.  I got the printable from Obseussed.  She did great until the number five.  She’s still young for this, so I’m mainly giving her things to do while I work with Clark. It keeps her busy and involved, so she’s happy.

Clark’s first activity was to take a handful of Goldfish, sort them into colors and then graph them onto his paper (printed from Homeschool Share).  He thought he was hilarious by grabbing a massive handful which contained too many to even graph.  The truth is, they were both more interested in eating the crackers than doing math.  So we had a snack before we continued.

Next we worked on measuring different sea life pictures with Goldfish.  We got this activity called Goldfish Measure from A Teaching Mommy

Clark did really well with this activity.  Luci, didn’t really get the idea and so she just counted her Goldfish and asked repeatedly if she could eat them now.

After dinner, Daddy read Clark and Luci their story, Night of the Moonjellies and had Clark answer questions about content as they went along.  They all lost interest about halfway through.  It was probably getting into too much detail for Clark.  Luci just wanted to comb Daddy’s hair.  LOL!

Can I Play the Shadow Game Again?

Once she was finished that, Luci came and asked me if she could play the “shadows game.”  I love that they ask to do this.  To me, it means that they’re having fun while learning and that’s one of my goals for homeschooling.

When Clark saw Luci playing, he wanted to too, so I got him another math activity (One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish from Homeschool Share).  He’s not crazy about math, but he loves doing puzzles.  He even added a little creativity by coloring in a pattern.

To finish off before bedtime, Luci worked on drawing straight lines and coloring.  I used a couple of printables from the Ocean Unit Study from A Teaching Mommy..  I like this one because the lines are thicker, thus a little easier for her to staying within the lines.  She’s getting much better at it.  Don’t you love how seriously they take this?
