How to Create a Paper Sloyd Book Cover

How to Create a Paper Sloyd Book Cover

Several years ago, my children and I had the pleasure of participating in a local Charlotte Mason Co-op. One of the group’s handicrafts for a term was to create a leather journal, doing the book binding ourselves. While this would normally seem unbelievably overwhelming to me, the women in this co-op somehow made it so simple and enjoyable. It was this project that convinced me to tackle handicrafts of all kinds with confidence that with a little work and research, we can do anything! I was seriously so amazed at these young kids, able to create such an incredibly beautiful result! My children proudly presented their books to their Dad for Christmas. He thought it was the coolest journal that he had ever had. In fact, he was so impressed that he bought a book binding kit for the children (perhaps to encourage more journal-making?)

Thus Began our Book-Creation Fascination

Creating a paper sloyd book cover is the first part of making a paper sloyd book – and here’s the good news! It’s a lot easier than making it out of leather and binding it yourself! But if you can manage to make this incredibly adorable little book, I am quite certain that you will be able to do the more difficult versions as well! This project is Number 11 in the book, Paper Sloyd for Primary Grades by Ednah Anne Rich. It has been my favorite so far. It’s seriously the cutest book ever!
