How to Create a Paper Sloyd Envelope

We are really excited to announce that we have started a YouTube Channel! It’s called Happy Handicrafts with Joanna Cinnamon. We will be uploading videos on a regular basis, mostly related to useful arts, crafts, and skills. The first series of videos will be on how to create paper sloyd models, taken from the book Paper Sloyd for Primary Grades by Ednah Anne Rich. This is the first video in the Paper Sloyd series, where we show you how to create a paper sloyd envelope.

We used this book in the early part of our education. We found it to be a great way to start with paper sloyd. However, in order for the process to go smoothly, I highly recommend first understanding why we do sloyd, and a few of the rules around it. Read our blog post for a great summary: What is Sloyd? I. Envelope. 6″ x 6″

For this model, you will need a pencil, a ruler, scissors, a 1″ circle sticker, and paper. The book recommends manila drawing or drafting paper, which is heavy enough to be folded and creased but not to heavy to cut. We used pre-cut origami paper (for younger students) and construction paper for more experienced students.
