After taking some time off from Five in a Row, we are back, studying The Glorious Flight by Alice and Martin Provensen.  I chose this book because Clark has been asking some very specific questions recently about airplanes and how they fly.  So I thought this would provide a great opportunity to take him in the direction of his interest. The Glorious Flight tells the story about Louis Bleriot who, with great persistence and passion, built a flying machine to become one of the first to fly across a large body of water, the English Channel. Social Studies  We began our study of The Glorious Flight by talking about human...

“Mommy when are we going to get a pumpkin to carve?” We are walking through the grocery store, past the massive display of pumpkins and the inevitable question comes.  Clark had been hounding me for weeks and I had put it off as long as I was able.  I was going to have to carve a pumpkin.  Now, I know that there are some folks who love this sort of thing (and to those people, I say: “Where on earth are you when I need you?!”), but I’m not one of them. In fact, there are few things in life that...

My baby girl, Luci is turning 4 years old!  It’s my baby’s birthday and I’m making this about me. I have never been one of those Moms who falls to pieces with every milestone.  If that’s you, don’t take offense, it’s probably just my own personal defense mechanism so that I don’t have a public breakdown because of all the things that I miss as a working Mom.  For real.  But in the meantime, as other Moms were wiping their tears as they dropped their babies off at Preschool, I was high-tailing it home so I could get an awesome nap...

This was our first experience with a “Homeschool Day” field trip to the Fort Worth Zoo, and I just have to say WOW!  Homeschoolers show up!  I have been to the Fort Worth Zoo several times, but I have never seen it so incredibly busy!  Way to go, Homeschoolers! The timing couldn’t have been more perfect because next week is Luci’s birthday and she has been asking to go to the zoo for her birthday.  So, when I saw the Fort Worth Zoo was having a Homeschool Day with a nice little discount, we decided to go this week!  Neither Clark...

I have gone my entire life not knowing anything about enzymes - well except those classes in Nursing school, which I'd like to forget.  This all changed several months ago, when it was suggested to me that I try taking some enzyme supplements as part of my wellness routine.  Curious, I started taking some dietary enzymes and was so excited about the results and how I felt, that I started digging around to learn more about them.  I wanted to learn all about enzymes and why they are so important. Now, with a little knowledge under my belt, I’m convinced that everyone...
