As part of our Five in a Row curriculum, we have been studying the book, Miss Rumphius.  It is such a sweet book about a woman who lived a full and wonderful life, and in the end wanted to do something to make the world a more beautiful place.  She did this by planting lupines.  Everywhere.  I loved this because I love lupines! We have been reading Harold and the Purple Crayon as part of our Five in a Row curriculum.  In this book, Harold goes on an adventure in the middle of the night with his purple crayon, drawing whatever and wherever his imagination leads.  In the very beginning, he realized he needed light and so he drew a moon to light his way. Clark and Luci love painting.  So how do I make it even more special and exciting?  Add a little glitter, of course!  While working on our art project today, we added a couple of extra ingredients to create glittering, crystallized watercolor paints.  Everything’s better with glitter, right? Clark has been struggling with remembering which numbers are odd and which numbers are even.  I get it – I couldn’t remember at his age either.  It seemed like a rather random designation to me.  Our brains are the same.  I know he needs a creative link to make the connection permanent, so we came up with a creative way to remember even and odd numbers. We are reading Very Last First Time for our Five in a Row study. The story takes place in an Inuit village in northern Canada. As we read the story Clark and Luci became fascinated with igloos and wanted to build one.
