I’ve always made some sort of elaborate Gingerbread House for the Holidays, but as it often does, practicality takes precedence over aesthetics when you have young children.  So this year, I showed the kids how to make a super-easy “gingerbread” house, and they had a ball. Our most recent Five in a Row book has been The Rag Coat, by Lauren Mills.  In this story, the main character, Minna’s father works in the coal mines.  He becomes sick and eventually dies from what is presumably Black Lung Disease.  This was an ideal opening for a discussion on lungs and the respiratory system. We have been studying the classic children’s book, Madeline, which served as an introduction to a series I wanted to do with the children on Health and Wellness. We had some awesome Halloween fun this week.  I’ll admit I was a little worried about my kids missing out on some fun traditions since they no longer attend a school, and I had to work a couple of days, but our week was full of activities that kept us very busy.
