Fly Free, Beautiful Butterflies!

Fly Free, Beautiful Butterflies!

It took seventeen days for all of our butterflies to emerge from their chrysalides.  No matter how many times you see this transformation, it remains fascinating and magical.  Although I would have liked to keep our butterflies for a couple of days, but they were somewhat lethargic, so I was worried that they needed to be set free into their natural environment. Clark and Luci were SO excited to let them fly free.

The moment we took our butterflies outside, they started flitting and flying around in a frenzy.  I am quite sure they were telling us that they were desperate to get out.  We could finally see their beautiful coloring!

Clark opened the top.  The butterflies were flying around so frantically that they couldn’t even find their way out!  We gave them some time, but when they continued to have trouble, we decided to help them out.  Clark guided them very gently and three quickly flew out and away.

Clark finally had to help the last one out.  He let it climb onto his finger and he let him fly free.  He was not as eager as his friends to fly away, so we got a close-up view of him before he left!

This was such an awesome experience for the kids and the adults.  The kids learned a lot about the life cycle of caterpillars and butterflies and no doubt will remember this experience for a long time to come!
