How to Create a Paper Sloyd Ribbon Box

Today we will be making the next project in our paper sloyd series, which is a cute little ribbon box. This is project #13 from the 2nd year from the book Paper Sloyd for Primary Grades by Ednah Anne Rich. As we work our way through this book, you will notice that each project is designed to teach newer and more complex skills, and this project is no exception. There are a lot of measurements in this project and the extensive cutting with the Exacto knife required concentration and focus. Our efforts were rewarded, though, as this project is very useful.

We ended up making some adaptations to our box so that it could store part of our Washi tape collection. Using the Exacto knife, I cut a line across the front of the box and threaded the end of the tape through the opening, turning this hot mess…

…into this nicely organized box, which makes me very happy.

In our homeschool, we love handicrafts. Together with my two children, we decided that we would record ourselves while making handicrafts so that other homeschools could do them along with us. We know that sometimes even the very thought of doing handicrafts can be overwhelming. Maybe if we do them together, it won’t be so overwhelming. So come, follow along with us at Happy Handicrafts, where we share each of our projects.

Learn More About Sloyd

Sloyd is foundational in a Charlotte Mason education. It was initially a bit of a mystery to me, and because of this, it was a bit of a mountain, which I was hesitant to address. However, I eventually sat myself down, determined to learn what it was all about. I share the results of my research in the blog post: What is Sloyd? And Why is it a Valuable Tool in Home Education? Once you become familiar with the reasons behind sloyd, visit A Practical Guide to Your Frist Year of Paper Sloyd to get started. You may soon find that you and your children are thoroughly enjoying yourselves, while developing valuable skills!
