How to Create a Paper Sloyd Trefoil Calendar

Today we are going to be creating a paper sloyd trefoil calendar. This oddly-shaped calendar is the 11th supplementary model from the book, Paper Sloyd for Primary Grades. We are slowly working our way through this book, making and filming every project as we go so that we can share them with you. As you read and watch, you will see how each project presents us with new and different challenges. This project seemed to be missing several measurements and guides, so we made them up ourselves, and they seemed to work.

If you are finding this model to be a struggle, come craft with us and we’ll share our tips and tricks and what worked for us!

I can’t help but think, now that we’re done our paper sloyd trefoil calendar: “What are we going to do with this oddly-shaped calendar?” What would they have done with it in 1905, when this book was written? Was it just an interesting little trinket? Or was it in some way useful to the one who crafted it?

I can imagine, as a child, I would have found this calendar fascinating, and would have taken great pleasure in changing the months, weeks and days. However, since this is our third calendar in our paper sloyd series (remember our “mermaid calendar,” and our pentagon-shaped calendar?), I can’t think of any use for this one! Sometimes, I think the purpose of a project is not for the final use, but in learning new skills and functions. This may be one of those situations.

And finally, a huge thanks to Grandma Parsnip, whos offers for help only led to more work. She means well, though.
