Today we are finishing up our Five in a Row study of Night of the Moonjellies with a focus on jellyfish.  Much of the information suggested in the Five in a Row workbook was above Clark and Luci’s heads, so we kept it simple.  I would like to return to some subjects later on, when there is time and interest, such as the concept of owning a small business. How to Create a Simple Aquatic Biome Since the children’s focus was definitively on jellyfish and other aquatic animals, I decided to pursue this subject with them and create a simple aquatic biome out of...

Clark and Luci both went to Mother's Day Out today.  That gives me a few hours to catch up on sleep, clean and get organized. I had promised them some Goldfish crackers as an after-school snack, but I was actually planning on getting some Five in a Row math done at the same time!  Today we did our activities first and read our book, Night of the Moonjellies last. We have been on vacation in Florida for the past couple of  weeks with family.  We drove the 18 hours there and back but broke the trip on the way back by stay for a day in Destin.  For years I'd heard how beautiful the beaches of Destin were, and now I understand the hype!  It has the most beautiful beaches I have ever seen in the United States! Even though it was pretty chilly, and the water downright cold, we couldn’t drag the kids away from the sand and beach.  We spent some of our time at a State Park, which...

I don’t know when Dr. Seuss’ birthday became a big week-long event at school, but it did and I love it!  I look forward to it all year.  I love to see what dress-up ideas and activities the teachers are going to come up with. This year we will be leaving on our vacation, so we will be missing the majority of the celebration, but we will be there for the “Dress-up-in-your-favorite-Dr. Seuss-character Day”!  This year we decided to be a red fish and a blue fish from the book “One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish.”  I crocheted them hats to...

Maybe I should have seen this one coming.  I should have known better than to promise paints to my preschoolers on the second day of a diet.  But I did and I was awoken by two eager little kiddos this morning, asking:  "Can we paint now?  Can we paint now?"  They wouldn't stop until I grudgingly got up and showered. They horsed down their breakfasts so that they could get their paint aprons on.  Who knew that was so exciting?!  I thought we would start simply and see how it all went, so we began with a couple of favorites,...
