As the weather slowly turned cool, ushering in fall, our next Five in a Row adventure seemed an obvious one: How to Make an Apple Pie and see the World. This was our first experience with a “Homeschool Day” field trip to the Fort Worth Zoo, and I just have to say WOW!  Homeschoolers show up!  I have been to the Fort Worth Zoo several times, but I have never seen it so incredibly busy!  Way to go, Homeschoolers! Today we went on a field trip to the Frontiers of Flight Museum in Dallas. It was such a great day! A little confession:  I think I might enjoy our field trips more than Clark and Luci do! The Perot Museum in downtown Dallas, Texas is a public natural history museum.  Since we knew we would be homeschooling this year, we got a yearly membership.  We had been to visit several times, but we are loving the freedom that a membership offers us.  This museum is really big, so there is no way to get in the entire experience in one visit – so a membership seemed a logical place to start! I saw this great statistic the other day circulating among homeschoolers on Facebook.  It compared the amount of time public schooled children spend on their studies as compared to homeschooled children. The logic was that children attending public school spend 180 days in school for 12 years of their life. This is equivalent to 2160 days or 5.9 years of school.  Homeschoolers, on the other hand, are in their learning environment every day, all year round.  The message was RELAX!  We’ve got 18 years to accomplish 5.9 years of school!
