How to Decorate Your Paper Sloyd Bookmarks

How to Decorate Your Paper Sloyd Bookmarks

In our last blog post, How to Create a Paper Sloyd Bookmark, we showed our most recent Happy Handicraft video in our paper sloyd series. It was a very simple way to create a paper sloyd bookmark. I don’t know about you, but in our homeschool, we read a lot of books, and we are always in need of bookmarks. These paper sloyd bookmarks are a lot nicer than the scrap paper I normally grab to save my place in a book! Or the piece of random plastic that I found my daughter using as a bookmark! We really enjoyed making these little bookmarks, but we wanted to make them even better! In this post, we are taking our bookmarks to the next level, making them so cute and fun! We are going to show you how to decorate your paper sloyd bookmarks with some simple supplies.

Materials Needed

Here’s How We Did It

  1.   First, use the video from our previous post to create your own paper sloyd bookmarks. Make enough for yourself, your brothers and sisters, and your friends!
  2.   Decide how you want to decorate your bookmarks. Use your imagination!  We will give you our examples. You are welcome to copy them, or make your own!
  3.  Using different colored construction paper cut out the pieces you’ll need to create your bookmarks
  4.   Using markers or pens, you can write words, draw pictures, add patterns, or character traits to your bookmarks.
  5.   Glue on the pieces that you’ve cut out.  Be sure to add googly eyes!
  6.   That’s it!  Now your paper sloyd bookmarks are ready to be given as gifts or to be used in your homeschool!

Here’s a Little Inspiration

We decided to create a baby chick, a little piglet, a heart, a baby rhino, a lady bug and a doughnut.  There’s no limit to the variety of things you can make!  Use your imagination, or you are welcome to copy ours!

As you can see, we didn’t use patterns.  We just cut out pieces and stuck them on our bookmarks.

Do bookmarks get any cuter than this? These are such a great way to add a personal touch to your homeschool. We hope you enjoy them along with your books!
