A second year of pandemic schooling has started, and although some schools are open and operating as usual, many are choosing operate in a more restrictive manner. As veteran homeschoolers, these choices have little effect on us. We have found ways to adapt and we are happy to share them with you! One way to still get a variety of experiences, and to provide various interactive lessons, is to turn to digital. Now, I'm not a huge fan of digital over reality, but this is a time when we all need to compromise! I would...

This was our first experience with a “Homeschool Day” field trip to the Fort Worth Zoo, and I just have to say WOW!  Homeschoolers show up!  I have been to the Fort Worth Zoo several times, but I have never seen it so incredibly busy!  Way to go, Homeschoolers! The timing couldn’t have been more perfect because next week is Luci’s birthday and she has been asking to go to the zoo for her birthday.  So, when I saw the Fort Worth Zoo was having a Homeschool Day with a nice little discount, we decided to go this week!  Neither Clark...

Today we went on a field trip to the Frontiers of Flight Museum in Dallas. It was such a great day! A little confession:  I think I might enjoy our field trips more than Clark and Luci do! The Glorious Flight Study We’ve been studying the award winning children’s story, The Glorious Flight as part of our Five in a Row curriculum.  The Glorious Flight tells the story of Louis Blériot’s efforts in the early 1900s to build a flying machine.  Clark, especially, has taken a real interest in airplanes, so we went to the library and got every book we could about...

The Perot Museum in downtown Dallas, Texas is a public natural history museum.  Since we knew we would be homeschooling this year, we got a yearly membership.  We had been to visit several times, but we are loving the freedom that a membership offers us.  This museum is really big, so there is no way to get in the entire experience in one visit – so a membership seemed a logical place to start! It’s a pretty fascinating museum for kids of all ages, starting even before you enter the doors!  On the walkway up to the entrance is an area...

I saw this great statistic the other day circulating among homeschoolers on Facebook.  It compared the amount of time public schooled children spend on their studies as compared to homeschooled children. The logic was that children attending public school spend 180 days in school for 12 years of their life. This is equivalent to 2160 days or 5.9 years of school.  Homeschoolers, on the other hand, are in their learning environment every day, all year round.  The message was RELAX!  We’ve got 18 years to accomplish 5.9 years of school! Don’t you love that?  I am acutely aware that I am still tied to the public school way...
