The morning after I officially pulled Luci out of her Mother’s Day Out program, she burst into our bedroom at 6 am, all excited, squealing:  “Am I going to school today, Mommy?  I need to get ready!”  My stomach just lurched and the second-guessing started.  All day I questioned my decision. Was this a selfish decision?  Is this in Luci’s best interest?  I struggled for several days with these thoughts until I took a moment to snatch some pictures of Clark and Luci playing together outside.  They were have a great time bouncing on balls, squealing and laughing, falling...

I had a defining moment several weeks ago. After working a night shift, I was taking a nap and my husband was watching the kiddos. While cleaning the bathroom, he got a phone call and went to answer it. While he was on the phone, our sweet, sweet 5 yr old son decided to help him clean the bathroom. He took our (what I now know to be toxic) spray cleaner and covered every surface of the bathroom, including his eyes and face. Knowing he had done something he should not have done, he ran and hid. When I woke...

We’ve been very excited for this day for a long time now!  Luci has been counting down the days for over a month!  Today is the day that my Baby Luci is turning three! We like to do themed birthdays and for the longest time, Luci couldn’t decide what she wanted the theme to be.  She wanted a pink Rapunzel birthday or a Frozen birthday theme but with a pink cake.  It’s all very serious and confusing for a little two year old!  She finally decided in the week before her birthday - she wanted a Frozen birthday with an...

When it comes to opinions about homeschooling, I think I've probably come a long way in a short time.  Less than one year ago, I was just like the majority of tax-paying parents. My (small-minded) thought was that homeschoolers were either crazy, "crunchy" hippies, and or religious fanatics. I could not understand why someone would choose to homeschool when you were paying school taxes - especially when you live in a top-rated school district.  So what changed? What made us decide to homeschool? I Was Starting to Get Worried With approximately one year until my first child started Kindergarten,...

Luci has been waiting with great excitement to start back to her little Mother’s Day Out program this year.  She is going to be going two days a week.  For the first time, Clark will be staying home, homeschooling, and Luci will be going to school. I think it was a little surprising to her that Clark was not accompanying her this year, but she put on her game face. This year, she actually ended up with the same teacher, in the same room as last year.  I’m hoping this stability will help my sweet little girl become a little more familiar and relaxed in...

Along with our reading of the books"Storm in the Night" and "Thunder Cake," we are studying weather.  Weather is a fantastic subject to learn about in the younger grades for several reasons. First of all, it's something that kids can observe and document every single day. Weather will spark their interest because it is ever-changing and sometimes dramatic. It's also a great way to encourage curiosity and a fascination in the beauty of nature and science. We've been working hard, learning how to read a thermometer, learning how to identify the different types of clouds, and beginning to...
