It appears the meteorologists were correct this time! Yesterday after our walk to the park, temperatures plunged by about 40 degrees within a few hours. There was rain and sleet all evening and all night. We woke up to a very rare winter wonderland! Everything was coated in ice, creating a calm stillness, which I remember from my childhood in the North. Before the kids awoke, I took my camera outside for a few pictures. This all made for a very excited little boy, who has been longing for snow ever since hearing that...

It's December and it's 76 degrees outside. Tomorrow, the weather forecasters are threatening us with freezing temperatures. That's what it's like in Texas in the winter - shorts and t-shirts one day, scarves and mittens the next! We don't often take the weather forecasts very seriously, but today, we thought we would get in one more visit to the park before it became, as one meteorologist called it, "entombed in ice." Dramatic much? We had noticed that our friendly, neighborhood swan was still at the pond, and the kids had been begging to go back to see the swan. ...

It's the Thanksgiving Holidays! Happy Thanksgiving! Clark's preschool is closed this week and I couldn't be happier. It's so nice and relaxing not to have to worry about getting him ready and off to school  No stress in the morning!  The tougher part is keeping them both kids occupied and happy all day while I clean the entire house, get all the laundry done and prepare for family coming in from out of town for the holiday.    Immediately after breakfast, I pulled out my well-hidden play dough.  I reserve it for special occasions, so it keeps...

While researching the different homeschool methods for my children, a friend directed me to the book A Charlotte Mason Companion: by Karen Andreola.  I have been devouring it obsessively for the past couple of weeks. Can I just say, I LOVE THIS BOOK!  In fact, at the risk of sounding utterly corny, I would say this book resonates in my soul.  I had no idea what homeschooling could look like and how it could nourish not only my children's minds, but also their souls and spirits. I am learning all kinds of things about Charlotte Mason's methods, all...

On Fridays, Clark is home from his Preschool, so I have started to incorporate a little homeschooling into our routine. At this point, I am casually introducing some early training for successful habits. The one thing I've heard over and over and over again from Moms hesitant to homeschool is that they "don't have the patience." Well, friends, I have the least patience of anyone I know. However, I don't actually believe that lack of patience is a reason not to homeschool. When we put in the effort to train our children while they are...

Although we are not going to officially be starting homeschool until next year (2014) when Clark would be starting Kindergarten, I've been thinking trying to think of what it is going to look like for us. Ideally, I want to incorporate lots of nature and outdoor activities into our daily life. As a new homeschooler, I am still learning what that will involve. But in the meantime, I would like to start inserting this ideal into our lives. The Perfect Opportunity Today presented the perfect opportunity. As I was driving Clark to his Preschool, we passed our...
