02 Apr How to Create a Paper Sloyd Diamond-Shaped Box
Our project for today is a paper sloyd diamond-shaped box. This project is the 12th supplementary model from the book, Paper Sloyd for Primary Grades by Ednah Anne Rich. It’s a beautiful little box with a lid, that can be used for so many things. We’re thinking hair elastics, push pins, paper clips, buttons etc. Although we’ve created several boxes in the past (a pencil box, a bonbon box, a handkerchief box, a ribbon box, a pen box, a box with cover, a sliding pencil box, a round button box, and a triangular candy box, to name a few), we found that this model required some experience. There are no instructions that come with this model, and we found that some measurements were implied, rather than written. So, our experience in paper sloyd box making definitively came in handy.
Materials Needed
- The book, Paper Sloyd for Primary Grades by Ednah Anne Rich
- An Exacto knife
- A pencil
- Glue
- A metal ruler
- Two pieces of good quality cardstock, one patterned and one plain
- A cutting mat
Happy Handicrafts Video: How to Create a Paper Sloyd Diamond-Shaped Box
This was one of our longer videos because of all the steps involved in the creation of the box. However, I think it was worth it. This box is very pretty, and can certainly have many uses. How will you use yours?
We really liked the combination of papers in this project. It can be done with plain Bristol Board, but we used scrapbook paper. We buy scrapbook paper individually and in packs, so we always have matching paper. The prices ranges from a few cents per paper to a couple of dollars, especially if you’re going after the thicker metallic or glitter options.
I hope you found enjoyment in this project. If you are a homeschool mom who is considering including paper sloyd as part of your curriculum, come and follow along with us at Happy Handicrafts on YouTube. We’re learning useful arts, crafts, and skills that we share with you.
